In regard to racking the slide versus only cocking the hammer, from my own experience on a Custom 1911 guns, many of those who got really light trigger work on their guns, they wouldn't just cock the hammer krub. Those owners would rack the slide the way the gun would fire. They wouldn't even let the slide slam the gun without a Magazine in the gun either
I have been doing the same way with my custom 1911 as well as other guns that I own. I am not very sensitive about firing it empty as I think guns are made much tougher than many owners/users think. They can withstand 10K PSI when the ammo goes off, so go easy on your mind krub. I've fired those guns blank for at least 10K times each and seen no bad dammage on any part yet krub
